Mirza Faysal Amin, president of the Thakurgaon district unit of the BNP, has collected the party’s nomination paper to contest the by-election to the vacant Thakurgaon-1 parliamentary seat.
He is the younger brother of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, former BNP Secretary General who was recently elected the President of Bangladesh.
The nomination paper was collected on behalf of Mirza Faysal Amin from the BNP central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka, on Tuesday afternoon. Thakurgaon District BNP General Secretary Poygam Ali received the form on his behalf.
Poygam Ali said that as of 4:30pm on Tuesday, no other BNP leader had collected a nomination paper for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency.
According to the party’s schedule, the nomination papers will be submitted on Wednesday. The party’s nomination board will interview the aspirants at the BNP office on September 18.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected from Thakurgaon-1 by a large margin in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The seat became vacant in accordance with the Constitution after he assumed the presidency.
