Gentle winter chill descends on Kurigram

Residents of Rajarhat upazila in Kurigram experienced an early touch of winter at the break of dawn on Wednesday (September 16), with light fog and dew blanketing the lush green Aman paddy fields.

At early dawn, drops of morning dew transformed the vast paddy crops across the upazila into shimmering silver fields as daylight broke. Farmers heading out to tend their crops were seen wrapped in light warm clothes, towels, or shawls to ward off the early morning chill. Local residents noted that while daytime temperatures remain warm, cold air settles over open fields and riverbanks from evening through dawn.

Subal Chandra Sarkar, an official at the Rajarhat Agricultural Meteorology Observatory, explained that falling nighttime temperatures combined with atmospheric moisture cause dew formation on foliage. He added that while severe winter weather is not expected immediately due to higher daytime temperatures, the morning chill will gradually increase as night temperatures drop further.
