Fake poster campaign targets Noakhali BNP leader

A series of bizarre posters featuring the photo and name of a local Juba Dal leader with absurd campaign promises has triggered widespread discussion in Companiganj upazila of Noakhali.

The posters appeared on Monday night across Shahjadpur village in the Sirajpur Union, naming Masudur Rahman Khokon—former president of the Sirajpur Union Ward 8 Juba Dal—as a prospective union parishad chairman candidate.

The posters contained offensive slogans including offers of "free cannabis and yaba," "cannabis allowances for the unemployed," and "special cards for drug addicts." Images of the posters quickly went viral on social media, drawing severe local criticism.

The victim, Khokon, stated that the posters are part of a deliberate smear campaign meant to tarnish his reputation. He denied any involvement with drugs or any intention to contest the chairman post, explaining that he earns his living as a woodcutter.

Khokon alleged that the incident stems from a recent dispute where his son was slapped by the son of Sirajpur Union Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Abul Hashem, which led to an argument between the families.

However, Jamaat leader Abul Hashem denied all allegations, asserting that neither he nor his family had any connection to the posters. He stated that his son had merely disciplined Khokon's son at school over an eve-teasing incident, leading to false accusations against his family. 

Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Hakim confirmed that police are aware of the matter and will take legal action once a written complaint is filed.
