Focal point formed to help skilled workers go abroad

A focal point has been formed to help skilled Bangladeshis go abroad and prevent people from being harassed through false information, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam said on Wednesday.
She made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Dhaka.
The state minister said the BNP government has been working to make the migration process easier and more organised since taking office.
“Bangladeshis trying to go abroad often fall into the trap of brokers and face trouble over fake documents,” she said.
The Foreign Ministry is working to resolve the problem and facilitate overseas employment for skilled people, she added.
Shama said the “One Citizen, One Card” system would bring all information about a citizen together in one place and reduce opportunities for broker networks.
“Until then, a joint committee involving different government agencies will work to resolve the problems,” she said.
Regarding the return of convicted fugitives, including a former prime minister, Shama said the government was working on the matter.
She said the government would take steps to bring them back once it officially receives the documents related to Wednesday's verdict.
“The government will continue its efforts until the fugitives are brought back to the country,” she said.
Shama also urged people not to pay heed to reports that India has not yet given its agrément for the Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh.
“India has not said anything like that. The agrément process takes time for verification,” she said.
