Tigers eye historic WTC final after Australia heroics

Bangladesh are keeping their hopes alive for a historic first appearance in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final after making significant progress in the ongoing 2025-27 cycle.

The Tigers are currently fourth in the WTC standings with 40 points from six Tests and a points percentage of 55.56. Australia, South Africa and New Zealand are the three teams above them.

Bangladesh's campaign received a major boost after they drew their recent two-Test series against Australia 1-1. Chief selector Habibul Bashar believes the team is now in a strong position to challenge for a place in the top two and reach next year's final.

“We are now in a very good position in the World Test Championship,” Bashar said, according to the ICC.

Bangladesh have six Tests remaining in the current WTC cycle. Their next challenge will come at home against the West Indies in October, with the two-match series offering an important opportunity to strengthen their position.

The Tigers will need consistent results in their remaining matches as the race for the top two intensifies. The WTC final is scheduled to be played at The Oval in London in June 2027.
