A microbus that plunged into a roadside pond in Faridpur’s Boraitola area led to the recovery of 140 bottles of Phensedyl, a codeine-based cough syrup, from the vehicle.
The incident occurred around 10 PM on Tuesday when the Hiace microbus lost control while travelling from Bhanga towards Tekerhat.
A caller alerted the national emergency service 999, which informed Bhanga Fire Service Station. Firefighters and police later reached the scene and began the rescue operation.
Locals rescued one person from the accident and took him to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
During a search of the microbus, firefighters and members of Bhanga Highway Police found two bags containing seven cartons with 140 bottles of Phensedyl.
Bhanga Highway Police SI Sohel Khan and Fire Service Station Officer Abu Zafar confirmed the recovery to 999.
Legal proceedings over the seized Phensedyl are underway.
