Elderly man killed in road accident; driver and 2 others detained

An elderly man named Uyad Malitha, 70, died tragically after being struck by a motorcycle in the Ghoramara area of Daulatpur Upazila, Kushtia. The deceased, Uyad Malitha, was the son of the late Adu Malitha of Bheramara village.

According to local sources and police, four people were travelling from Daulatpur on a ‘Discover’ motorcycle towards their home in Bheramara after attending private tutoring.

On their way, the driver lost control of the motorcycle while attempting to give way to another vehicle in the Ghoramara area. The motorcycle then crashed into Uyad Malitha, who was standing by the roadside in front of his home, killing him on the spot.

Following the incident, one of the four riders fled, while police detained three people, including the driver.

Confirming the incident, Md Khaledur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station, said, “Upon receiving news of the accident, police detained three people, including the driver. Legal action will be taken in this matter.”

A pall of gloom has descended on the area as relatives of the deceased have been overcome with grief.
