Government approves Tk 215cr for Teknaf jetty

The government has approved Tk 215 crore for constructing an RCC jetty and related facilities at Sabrang in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.

The approval was given at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

The work will be carried out under a project of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) under the Ministry of Shipping for constructing jetties and related facilities in Mirsarai and Sandwip in Chattogram and Sonadia Island, Sabrang and Jaliar Dwip in Cox's Bazar.

An open tender was invited for the construction of the RCC jetty and allied works at Sabrang. Three bids were submitted, all of which were found technically responsive.

Following the tender process and on the recommendation of the Tender Evaluation Committee, the government approved the proposal to award the work to the lowest responsive bidder, National Development Engineers Ltd of Dhaka.

The total cost of the work, including taxes and VAT, has been estimated at Tk 215 crore, to be financed from government funds.

The project was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council on August 14, 2023. Its implementation period is from January 1, 2023, to June 30, 2027.

Under the project, jetties and related facilities will be constructed in Mirsarai and Sandwip in Chattogram, and Sonadia, Sabrang and Jaliar Dwip in Cox's Bazar.
