Litton wants BPL to become a stronger platform for player development 

Bangladesh batter Litton Das believes the Bangladesh Premier League can play a bigger role in developing local cricketers if players are given greater continuity with their teams and more opportunities to compete alongside established foreign stars.

For Litton, one of the biggest advantages of the BPL is the access it gives domestic players to international cricketers. Players outside the national team can share dressing rooms with experienced professionals from different countries, learn from them and carry that knowledge into international cricket.

"The biggest plus point is that we always get to share the dressing room with good players," Litton said. "We gain cricketing experience from them, and that experience can be useful internationally."

But Litton believes the league can offer even more if teams are able to retain players for longer periods.

From a player's perspective, he wants the BPL to create a stronger sense of belonging. Frequent movement from one franchise to another, he said, can make it difficult for players to develop a lasting connection with a team and feel responsible for its success.

"If a team changes every season, it becomes very difficult for a player," he said. "I think the same applies to the owners as well. They may not be able to show the same level of dedication."

Longer-term relationships between franchises and players, according to Litton, could create a stronger team culture. A player who remains with the same side for several seasons can develop a deeper connection with the group and feel more responsible for its performance.

"When a BPL team maintains continuity and gives a player a longer opportunity, the team feeling also grows," Litton said. "Then the player tries with his heart and soul to give something good to the team."

Litton also believes the tournament can improve its overall standard by expanding its reach.

He pointed to progress in practice facilities, saying that while the BPL had a strong standard several years ago, training facilities were not always adequate. The situation has improved, but he sees room for further development through more matches and additional venues.

"If we can increase the number of games and venues, I think more people in Bangladesh will want to watch the matches and try to follow every event," he said.

For Litton, therefore, the BPL's next step is not simply about attracting bigger names. It is about creating a more organised competition in which local players have the time, facilities and team environment to learn from those names.

A stronger domestic league, he believes, can ultimately give Bangladesh more players capable of carrying that experience to the international stage.
