Twenty-two students fell ill during classes at Kankra Pinglu High School in Panchbibi, Joypurhat, on Wednesday (September 16). They were taken to Panchbibi Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Earlier on Tuesday, seven students of the school also became sick. All 29 students affected over the two days were girls.
School authorities said the students suddenly suffered from dizziness, breathing problems and nausea. Some of them collapsed in the classroom, causing panic among other students.
Of the 22 students taken to the hospital on Wednesday, eight recovered and returned home. Three others were sent to Joypurhat General Hospital as their condition was considered serious.
Panchbibi Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Tarun Kumar Pal said the incident appeared to be a case of mass psychogenic illness, in which similar symptoms can spread among a group of people.
