Football match sparks clash between two Rajshahi University departments

A clash broke out between students of the Medical Psychology and History departments of Rajshahi University following an inter-department football match on Thursday, leaving two players injured.

The incident took place at the university stadium around 4:30 PM.

The match ended 1-1 in regulation time before History won 3-1 on penalties. Tensions reportedly escalated after the match over celebrations by History players, leading to an altercation and later a physical clash.

History dept player Jeem and Medical Psychology dept player Tanvir were injured in the incident.

Players from both departments blamed the other side for provoking the clash and called for an investigation into the incident.

Assistant Proctor Gias Uddin Ahmed said he rushed to the stadium after learning about the clash and brought the situation under control quickly.

“Additional police have been deployed in the stadium area. Action will be taken against those involved in the clash,” he said.
