Muggers attack police in Bhairab, injure 2

The incident took place near Railway Bridge No. 29 in Bhairabpur around 5 AM on Thursday (September 17). Three suspected muggers were arrested later that night.

The arrested are Saim, 30, of Bhairabpur, Robin, 37, of Panchabati, and Rajib of Jagannathpur.

Police said a group of 10-15 muggers threw stones from the railway tracks at officers who went to the area after receiving a robbery report. The attack damaged the front windshield of the police vehicle and injured OC Md Mahbubur Rahman and SI Md Ashik.

Earlier, a passenger reported that muggers had snatched Tk 17,000 from him near the bus stand.

OC Mahbubur Rahman said the three arrested suspects confessed to the crime. A case was filed against them for attacking police, vandalising the vehicle and obstructing official duties. Another 10-15 unidentified people were also named in the case. Police are continuing the drive to arrest the others.
