UK universities tighten admission rules for Bangladeshi students

Birmingham City University and Buckinghamshire New University have suspended applications from Bangladeshi students for undergraduate and Master of Research (MRes) programmes.

The University of Law and the University of Hertfordshire have stopped admissions for students from Sylhet as well as for certain business and management courses. The University of Wolverhampton has also suspended applications from students in Sylhet for undergraduate and selected business programmes.

Meanwhile, the University of Derby and the University of Greater Manchester have reportedly stopped admissions for MRes and PhD programmes.

International education consultants said the measures are linked not to academic concerns but to visa-related risks, inconsistencies in financial documents, failed interviews and an increase in asylum claims after students arrive in the UK.

As university policies and course availability are changing quickly, consultants advised students to confirm directly with the university that their application will be accepted and a CAS will be issued before paying any non-refundable tuition fees.
