ACC seeks wealth statements from ex-DB chief Monirul and wife

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to issue separate notices seeking wealth statements from former Additional Police Superintendent and DB chief Md Monirul Islam and his wife Zakia Parveen over allegations of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income.

The decision was taken on Thursday following an ACC inquiry, according to the commission's public relations department.

The inquiry found that Monirul had immovable and movable assets worth Tk 1,96,93,225. His total expenses were Tk 40,78,128, bringing his assets and expenses to Tk 2,37,71,353.

Against this, his acceptable income was calculated at Tk 2,31,91,980. The inquiry therefore found a discrepancy of Tk 5,79,373, which the ACC identified as assets beyond known sources of income.

The inquiry also found that Zakia had immovable and movable assets worth Tk 38,08,500. Her expenses were Tk 7,17,500, taking the total to Tk 45,26,000.

Her acceptable income was calculated at Tk 12,40,000, resulting in a discrepancy of about Tk 32,86,000 between her income and assets and expenses.

The ACC has approved orders for the two to submit separate wealth statements under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
