Four people have been arrested for allegedly printing and selling counterfeit currency notes in different parts of the country in an operation in Ashulia of Savar, Dhaka.
Special Response Battalion (SRB-4) conducted the operation and recovered counterfeit notes worth Tk 73,000 in denominations of Tk 50, Tk 100 and Tk 200 from their possession.
SRB-4 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md Hafizur Rahman disclosed the information at a press briefing at the SRB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar on Friday (September 18).
He said a team of SRB-4 conducted the raid at Kajichar in Ashulia on Thursday (September 17) afternoon following a tip-off.
During the operation, the team also seized a laptop and a printer allegedly used to produce the counterfeit notes.
According to information obtained during preliminary interrogation, the arrestees had allegedly been involved in producing counterfeit currency for a long time. They reportedly supplied and sold the fake notes in different parts of the country.
The SRB commander said efforts were underway to identify and arrest those who had purchased the counterfeit currency from the suspects.
Legal proceedings against the arrestees are underway, he added.
