
Six people were detained in Sajek on Friday for allegedly chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ while travelling to the tourist destination, police said.
Police detained them from the Sajek area in Rangamati in the afternoon. The six are Md Fardin Ehsan Hridoy and Yachin from Brahmanbaria, Sushanta Pal, Harun Islam Tushar and Riaz Uddin Bhuiyan from Habiganj, and Md Saiful Islam from Patuakhali.
Sajek Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tofazzal Hossain said the six had been shown arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
He said the six were chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ from a jeep while travelling towards Sajek through the Baghaichhari area. Police later detained them after local people informed them about the incident.
The OC said the detainees admitted during preliminary questioning that they had chanted the slogan.
He said initial inquiries found that the six were from different districts, including three from Habiganj, two from Brahmanbaria and one from Patuakhali.
Legal proceedings in the case are ongoing.
