9 arrested with 1,170 Yaba tablets in Naogaon

Police have arrested nine people and recovered 1,170 yaba tablets during a special anti-drug operation in Naogaon city.

The operation was conducted jointly by the District Detective Branch (DB) and Naogaon Sadar police in Nuniyapatti and Sweeper Colony from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM on Friday (September 18), police said.

During the operation, a female police team searched a woman identified as Muni, 45, in front of Gate No. 2 of Sweeper Colony. Police recovered 1,170 yaba tablets from her possession, packed in four black polythene packets containing 300, 300, 300 and 270 tablets.

Police later arrested her alleged associates, Manik, 38, and Shaon, 42.

Muni is a resident of Sweeper Colony, while Manik lives in Bagbari East Para of Naogaon city and Shaon in Khas Naogaon, according to police.

In the same operation, police also arrested Siam, 19, Rakib, 19, Abir Hossain, 19, Masud Rana, 32, Monowar Hossain, 48, and Raju Mia, 32, from the Sweeper Colony area on allegations of drug consumption and disrupting public peace and order.

Naogaon Police Superintendent Mohammad Tarikul Islam said, "the special operation was conducted as part of intensified anti-drug drives in Nuniyapatti and Sweeper Colony."

“Legal action has been taken against those involved in drug dealing and consumption,” he said, adding that such anti-drug operations would continue.
