Four killed as bus, private car collide in Munshiganj

Four people, including the driver of a private car, were killed and another was critically injured when a passenger bus collided with the car in Gazaria, Munshiganj, on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 2:38 PM near Jamaldi bus stand on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.

Deputy Assistant Director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said the Gazaria Fire Station received information about the accident at 2:38 PM.

Two rescue units of the Fire Service rushed to the spot and began rescue operations.

The private car driver was killed on the spot. Firefighters recovered his body and handed it over to highway police, Shafiqul said.

The injured were taken to hospital, where doctors declared three more people dead.

The other injured person was sent to Dhaka in critical condition for better treatment, he said.

According to the Fire Service, the passenger bus, named New Baleshwar, was travelling towards Chattogram, while the private car was heading towards Dhaka after its occupants had eaten at Miami Restaurant.

The two vehicles collided near Jamaldi bus stand, causing the accident.

Five people, including the driver, were travelling in the private car at the time of the accident.

Two Fire Service units took part in the rescue operation.
