Two cousins drown in pond in Natore

Two cousins drowned in a pond in Lalpur upazila of Natore on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased were Afia Khatun, 10, daughter of Alamgir Hossain of Rajshahi, and Naim Hossain, 9, son of Adam Ali of Walia village in Lalpur.

According to family members and locals, Afia had arrived at her aunt’s house in Walia from Rajshahi on Wednesday. Around noon, she and Naim were playing in an open area near the house when they went into the pond and drowned.

Later, locals spotted the two children floating in the water and rescued them. They were taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Walia Union Parishad Chairman Anisur Rahman confirmed the deaths.

Lalpur Police Station OC Nazrul Islam said the bodies were handed over to the families without autopsies following their request.
