Yaba smuggled via stove pipe, mastermind arrested

An ingenious plot to smuggle 6000 Yaba pills via a stove pipe was foiled by RAB, with the mastermind behind it now behind bars.

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) and RAB have arrested Amin Hossain, 38, the ringleader of a Cox's Bazar-based drug trafficking syndicate – with 6,000 Yaba pills that were being smuggled inside the stainless steel pipes of a gas stove.

The operation was conducted on Saturday (September 19) afternoon in the Sebarhat East Bazar area of Senbagh Upazila, Noakhali, in front of 'Mayer Doa Engineering Workshop' along the southern side of the Feni-Lakshmipur regional highway.

Subrata Sarkar Shuvo, Deputy Director of the DNC Noakhali District Office, stated that acting on a tip-off, a joint team comprising DNC Noakhali, RAB-11 (CPC-3 Noakhali), and RAB-7 (CPC-1 Feni) set up a temporary checkpoint to conduct searches. During the operation, Amin Hossain was detained after a search of a 'Badhon Paribahan' passenger bus traveling from Chattogram to Noakhali.

Subsequently, based on his confession, a stainless steel stove was recovered from the bus's luggage compartment. With the assistance of a workshop employee, 6,000 Yaba tablets and a mobile phone were seized from inside the stove's pipes, where they had been concealed by welding.

The arrested Amin Hossain is a permanent resident of Barahipur village in Dadpur Union under Sudharam Police Station, Noakhali. His father was the late Anwar Ullah.

Preparations are underway to file a case regarding this incident under Section 36(1), Clause 10(c) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. DNC Inspector Bapon Sen is filing the case as the plaintiff.

The DNC stated that joint operations by the DNC and RAB to curb drug trafficking will continue.
