Int’l Snakebite Awareness Day observed

International Snakebite Awareness Day was observed in the country including Dianjpur District and Paikgachha Upazila of Khulna District on Saturday with the theme “Be aware, save lives from snakebites. Seek treatment quickly, not rumours�"trust scientific care” and with a call for seeking prompt, science-based treatment after snakebites.

DINAJPUR: On the occasion, a rally and a discussion meeting were held in the district.
The rally began from the Civil Surgeon’s Office premises, passed through major town roads and ended at the 250-bed General Hospital, where a discussion was held.

Acting Civil Surgeon Dr Md Golam Rasul Rakhi chaired the function while Additional Secretary (Budget) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Arif Ahmed was the chief guest. 

General Hospital Superintendent Dr Md Sirajul Islam, Senior Consultant (Medicine) Dr Md Wahedul Haque, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer (UHFPO) Dr Sadratul Mumtahina, RMO and Dr Md Noor Alam, MOCS Dr Hossain Md Nahid, Senior Health Education Officer, Nursing Officer and other officials spoke.

The speakers said deaths and complications from snakebites can be significantly reduced if victims remain calm, reach the nearest health facility quickly and receive proper medical care.

PAIKGACHHA, KHULNA: On the occasion, a rally and a discussion organised by the Paikgachha Upazila Health Department were held on Saturday, urging people to seek prompt medical treatment after snakebites.

The rally began from the Upazila Health Complex and passed through the main road before a discussion at the facility’s auditorium.
Presiding over the event, UHFPO Dr Ahsanara Binte Ahmed stressed public awareness to reduce snakebite deaths and disability. 

She said effective treatment is available in Bangladesh and urged victims to go immediately to the nearest health facility rather than rely on traditional healers or folk remedies. Health officials and staff of the Upazila Health Complex attended the event.
