Narayanganj-2 MP Nazrul Islam Azad has said political statements may sound different when made from abroad, but the reality on the ground is quite different.
“Big statements can be made sitting in America. But the reality is very different. The Awami League has no position here,” he said while responding to questions from journalists in Araihazar on Friday (September 19).
Azad was speaking after a special doa mahfil organised in Dhandi village of Haizadi Union in Araihazar seeking the early recovery of Qari Mizanur Rahman, father of Md Zahirul Islam Zahir.
The MP was the chief guest at the programme, while Rakibul Islam Rakib, chairman of the Mostafizur Rahman Foundation, attended as a special guest. The event was supervised by Hafiz Shafiqul Islam, a member of the Narayanganj district unit of the BNP’s Olama Dal.
Responding to questions about the BNP’s internal situation in Araihazar, Azad said there was no division within the party in the constituency and claimed that the local BNP was “fully united.”
He alleged that several individuals, including former acting president of the upazila BNP Mahmudur Rahman Sumon, had previously worked to implement the agenda of former Awami League MP Nazrul Islam Babu.
He further claimed that those who contested elections separately had stayed away from Araihazar after facing embarrassment and were now unwelcome in the area.
Azad also said that those accused of wrongdoing or of acting as supporters of the Awami League would not be given any concession within the Araihazar BNP in the future.
