Six tragic deaths in two incidents 

Three children were asleep at one room in Sunamganj’s Tahirpur upazila. Their mother was abroad. Before dawn, everything in that room changed. After learning that their father had taken pesticide along with his three children, relatives rushed to the house, broke open the door and rescued them. The three children were taken to hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Their father remains critically ill.

In another incident in Manikganj, the bodies of a mother and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter were found lying in a room. The girl's father was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the same room. 

Six people died in two incidents in Sunamganj and Manikganj sometime on Friday night. Their bodies were recovered on Saturday. Four of the victims were children.

Family problems have emerged in both cases. However, it is still unclear what exactly led to the tragic incidents. Police are investigating both cases.

The first incident occurred in Rajnilein village of Tahirpur upazila in Sunamganj in the early hours of Saturday. Police and local sources said that Sarafat Ali went to sleep with his three children, Mawa Akter, 10, Shamim Mia, 7, and Tamim Mia, 2. Later in the night, he took pesticide along with his three children. He then informed an aunt living in Mymensingh about the matter over the phone.

After receiving the call from the aunt, other family members rushed to the house. They broke open the door and rescued the four. They were initially taken to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared the three children dead, they said.

According to family and locals, Sarafat Ali's wife, Fatema Begum, had returned to the country from Saudi Arabia two years ago. However, frequent quarrels plagued their household due to her husband's addiction to drugs and gambling. Driven by the need to alleviate the family's financial hardship, Fatema was compelled to leave her three children behind and return to Saudi Arabia three days ago. Sarafat Ali was resentful of his wife for leaving in this manner.
