Comilla University (CoU) has declared a day of mourning and suspended all classes and scheduled examinations on Sunday, September 20, following the brutal murder of Ishrat Shahriar Opratim, son of Dr Nahida Begum, an associate professor in the university’s Department of Bengali.
The university announced the decision in a notice signed by Registrar Md Mojibur Rahman Majumder on Saturday (September 19).
According to the notice, the university community is deeply shocked and saddened by Opratim’s murder. The authorities strongly condemned the killing and demanded a fair investigation, along with the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible.
The university also expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
As part of the mourning observance, all classes and scheduled examinations across the university will remain suspended on September 20.
The revised schedule for the postponed examinations will be announced later through notices issued by the respective departments.
