Body of missing teenager recovered near Akhaura border

The body of a 14-year-old boy has been recovered from the zero line along the Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria.
The body was found on Saturday (September 19) night near the barbed-wire fence in the Lanka Mora area on the Indian side of the border in the Abdullahpur area of Akhaura upazila.
The deceased was identified as Shakil,14, son of Malu Mia from Abdullahpur village.
According to his family, he had been suffering from a mental illness.
Shakil had been missing since Friday. On Saturday night, BGB members spotted his body near the barbed-wire fence in the Lanka Mora area on the Indian side.
On information about the discovery, family members went to the spot and identified the body as Shakil’s.
Lieutenant Colonel Jabbar Ahmed, commander of Sarail Battalion (25 BGB), said, ''there were no visible injury marks on the boy’s body."
As the body was found on the Indian side, Indian police took it for an autopsy following discussions among the BGB, Border Security Force (BSF) and police of the two countries. The body will be handed over to Bangladesh after the autopsy and completion of legal procedures.
Akhaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Javedul Islam said, "police went to the spot after being informed about the incident. He said, "Indian police had taken the body for an autopsy and that necessary legal action would be taken after investigating the incident."
However, it has not yet been established how Shakil reached the zero line or how he died. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of his death.
