Child’s body recovered two days after drowning in Sunamganj river

The body of a six-year-old boy was recovered two days after he went missing after drowning while bathing in a river in Jagannathpur of Sunamganj.

The body surfaced in the Itakhla River near the Khashiapara ferry ghat area of Shibganj Bazar around 10:30 AM on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Mahi,6, son of CNG driver Akhtar Mia from Mujahidpur (Budharpur) village in Pailgaon Union

According to police, Mahi went to bathe in the Itakhla River with his sister around noon on Friday. At one point, he drowned and went missing.

A team of divers from the Fire Service reached the scene from Sunamganj district town after receiving the news and conducted a rescue operation, but failed to locate the child.

Two days after the incident, Mahi’s body surfaced in the river on Sunday morning.

Jagannathpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam confirmed the incident and said police were sent to the scene after receiving the information.
