Four Jailed Over Jatrabari Cocktail Blasts

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent four people, including a leader of the banned Awami League, to jail in a case filed over multiple cocktail explosions outside Jatrabari Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Monirul Islam passed the order and fixed Tuesday (September 22) to hear a five-day remand petition against the accused.

The accused are Mohammad Raihan Uddin, office secretary of the banned Awami League’s Unit-6 of Ward 32 under Bangshal police station; Russell Khan, Alauddin and Abdullah Mashhur Ashrafi.

Police arrested Raihan in Bangshal on Saturday after identifying him from CCTV footage of the September 18 explosions. Acting on information obtained from him, police later recovered four unexploded cocktails from a parking area on Zain Saha Road in Lalbagh. The DMP bomb disposal unit subsequently neutralised the devices.

Police later arrested Russell, Ala Uddin and Abdullah in Demra based on information obtained during Raihan’s interrogation.

Jatrabari Police Sub-Inspector Jewel Rana filed the case under the Explosives Act on Saturday.
