Two arrested with 20kg of cannabis in Bagerhat

Two people were arrested with 20kg of cannabis while allegedly transporting the drugs in a private car in Rampal of Bagerhat.

A team of Special Response Battalion (SRB)-6 conducted the operation around 10:40 PM on Sunday (September 20) by setting up a checkpoint on a road near Gopinathpur-Bogra Bridge in Rampal upazila.

Acting on a intelligence, the SRB team stopped and searched a suspicious private car and recovered the cannabis.

The arrested individuals were identified as Riaz Hawlader, 25, son of Hasan Hawlader of Digaraj area in Mongla upazila, and Rahmat Kazi, son of Kamal Kazi of Uttar Malgazi area. According to SRB, they were involved in drug trafficking and transportation.

During the search, 20kg of cannabis was recovered from the private car. The silver-coloured vehicle used to transport the drugs was also seized.

A case has been filed against the two under the Narcotics Control Act at Rampal Police Station. The arrested men, the recovered cannabis and the seized vehicle were handed over to police for further legal action.
