2 Keraniganj jail inmates die at DMCH

Two inmates from Keraniganj jail have died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

A convict and a remand prisoner from Dhaka's Keraniganj Central Jail died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital at separate times on Sunday (September 20) night, confirmed DMCH Police Camp In-Charge (OC) Inspector Habibur Rahman.

The deceased convict was identified as 55-year-old Sohrab Hossain, convict number 718/A. He fell ill in prison on September 14 and was transferred to DMCH under prison authority orders. He was admitted to Ward 602 of the Medicine Department. Sohrab was the son of Uddin from Rangamati village in Manda, Naogaon.

The deceased remand prisoner was identified as 32-year-old Md Azim Uddin, prisoner number 758/A. He fell ill in prison on Sunday and was brought to the DMCH emergency unit. Doctors admitted him to Ward 601 of the Medicine Department, where he passed away at 12:15 AM while under treatment. Azim was the son of Abdul Ahad from Shantipara in Ashulia, Dhaka.

Prison guard Aminul Islam, who brought the inmates to the hospital, said the specific cases under which they were incarcerated could not be known immediately.

Inspector Habibur Rahman stated that both bodies are kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsies. The autopsies will take place following inquest reports prepared in the presence of an executive magistrate. Authorities will hand over the bodies to their respective families after procedures are completed.
