DB detains former panel mayor’s teenage son

The Detective Branch (DB) of police allegedly detained the 16-year-old son of former Barishal City Corporation panel mayor and Awami League leader Enamul Haque Bahar after failing to find him at his home.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon at Titumir Lane on Dargabari Road in Barishal city. A video of the incident has circulated on social media.

The detained teenager, Baftin Ahmed Jihan, passed his SSC examination from Barishal Zilla School this year.

Jihan’s mother, Sathi Akter, said police raided their home to arrest Bahar, who she said was on bail in all cases against him. Failing to find him, the officers took Jihan away.

The video shows plainclothes DB officers dragging Jihan away as his mother tries to stop them. She falls to the ground amid the scuffle before police take Jihan away in a pickup.

DB OC Azimul Karim did not respond to calls seeking comment.

Kotwali Model Police Station OC Al Mamun Ul Islam said the DB had detained a teenager from Ward 23 but had not handed him over to the station.
