AL leader among 4 remanded over Jatrabari cocktail blasts

A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed four people, including a leader of the Awami League, on remand in a case filed over multiple cocktail explosions in front of Jatrabari Police Station.

Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin granted four days remand to AL leader Md Raihan Uddin and two days each to the other three accused-- Russel Khan, Ala Uddin and Abdullah Mashhur Ashrafi.

Raihan is the office secretary of the party’s Ward 32, Unit 6, under Bangshal police station of Dhaka South.

Police arrested Raihan in Bangshal on Saturday after identifying him through CCTV footage of the explosions on September 18. Based on information obtained from him, police later arrested the other three in Demra.

Police also recovered four unexploded cocktails from beside a pillar in the parking area of a 10-storey building in Lalbagh. The DMP bomb disposal unit later neutralised the devices.

Jatrabari Police SI Jewel Rana filed the case under the Explosives Act on Saturday.
