Woman killed, husband injured in Kushtia truck crash

A woman was killed and her husband injured when a truck hit their motorcycle on the Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred around 10:30 AM in front of BRB Cables at Kumargara on the highway.

The deceased was identified as Chayna Rani Biswas, of Rathatala Para in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga. Her husband, Bidyut Kumar Biswas, was injured in the accident and received primary treatment.

Bidyut said his wife had been ill for several days and they were travelling to Kushtia town by motorcycle to see a doctor.

Near the BRB Cables area, one side of the four-lane road was still under construction, forcing them to use the opposite side of the road along with other vehicles. A truck hit their motorcycle from behind, leaving both of them injured.

Locals rescued the couple and took them to Kushtia General Hospital, where doctors declared Chayna dead.

Sub-Inspector Sultan of Kushtia Model Police Station said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue. Police were reviewing CCTV footage and hoped to identify the truck and its driver soon.

Officer-in-Charge Zakir Hossain said the driver fled the scene with the truck after the accident. Police were working to identify them. Legal action would be taken if the family filed a complaint.
