Patuakhali District BNP rally against ‘orchestrated violence’

A rally and procession were held under the initiative of the Patuakhali District unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to protest against “attempts to destabilise the country through orchestrated violence.”

The rally, held on Tuesday afternoon at Jhautala in Patuakhali municipal town, was presided over by Snehangshu Sarkar Kutti, president of Patuakhali BNP and administrator of the District Council.

Moderated by District BNP leader Mizanur Rahman, the event was addressed by District BNP General Secretary and Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Md Mujibur Rahman Totan, District BNP leader and former municipal mayor Mostak Ahmed Pinu, along with other leaders from the district and upazila BNP units and their affiliated organisations.

Speakers at the rally said, “After August 5, various political parties attempted to seize power and reap benefits, but the public did not accept this; instead, the people voted the BNP into power with a majority mandate. Currently, those same parties are engaged in despicable plots to destabilise the country through violence. Neither the BNP nor the general public will tolerate this. If the ongoing violence and anarchy are not halted, the BNP, together with the public, will resist these actions.”

The speakers further emphasised that while committees for various BNP-affiliated organisations are being formed amid this climate of orchestrated violence, there will be no place in these committees for “hybrid” leaders, drug users or drug dealers.

Instead, the committees will prioritise dedicated activists who have endured persecution and oppression. The BNP will maintain its “zero-tolerance” policy against drugs to ensure a drug-free nation.

Approximately 10,000 activists and supporters from the district’s eight upazilas attended the rally. Leaders and workers gathered at the venue, arriving in separate processions from various parts of the town.

Following the rally, a procession was held through the town, with participants chanting slogans against violence, anarchy and drugs.
