Missing child’s body found stuffed in sack in Bhola

Police recovered the body of a seven-year-old boy from a canal in Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola on Tuesday, two days after he went missing. A 16-year-old boy has been detained as a suspect.

The deceased was identified as Ismail Hossain, son of Akbar Mia and Ruma Begum of the Hawladar Market area.

Police recovered the body from a canal in Ward No. 5 of Borhanuddin municipality around 11: AM after locals spotted a sack floating in the water and informed police.

According to police and locals, Ismail went missing from his home on Sunday morning. His family later filed a general diary at the police station after failing to locate him.

Police went to the spot after being informed about the sack and found Ismail’s body inside it. His family members later identified the body.

Police detained Md Rokon, 16, as a suspect in connection with the incident. Officials declined to disclose further details, citing the ongoing investigation.

A local resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, claimed that Rokon had an argument with Ismail’s father over Tk 3,000 on Sunday morning and allegedly threatened to harm the child. The claim has not been independently verified by police.

Borhanuddin Police Station SI Md Jasim Uddin said, "a suspect had been detained and that the incident was under investigation."

OC Md Ashraf Hossain said, "he was heading to the scene after receiving news of the incident and that details would be provided after his arrival."
