The submission of the investigation report in a case against former national cricket captain and former MP Shakib Al Hasan and 14 others over alleged stock market manipulation, fraud and money laundering has been deferred again.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir on Wednesday set November 17 as the new date after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the investigating agency, failed to submit the report as scheduled.
According to the case statement, the accused allegedly manipulated the stock market through illegal transactions, fraudulent trading, gambling and speculation using BO accounts linked to their interests.
The alleged manipulation artificially raised the prices of certain shares, causing ordinary investors an estimated loss of Tk 256.97 crore, the statement said.
The case was filed on June 17 last year under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, Prevention of Corruption Act and various sections of the Penal Code.
