Actress Radha file police complaint against siblings

Radha and Ambika are popular actresses from South Indian cinema, who once dominated the silver screen.

However, recent scenario unfolds; Radha filed a police complaint against her sister Ambika and brother Mallikarjun. She alleges that they stole some of her pre-signed, blank cheques and attempted to withdraw ₹46 crore using them.

A report by The News Minute stated that on Monday (September 21), Radha lodged a complaint with the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner against her elder sister, actress Ambika, and her brother, Mallikarjun Kunjan Nair. She claims that several signed, blank cheques were taken from her home and misused in an attempt to withdraw ₹46 crore.

The matter stems from a family dispute involving family assets and financial transactions. Radha used to keep a few signed, blank cheques at home to cover routine business expenses—such as staff salaries, electricity and utility bills, taxes, and garden maintenance costs.

Radha told the Police that on September 17, the bank informed her that five old cheques had been submitted for encashment by Ambika. The total value of these cheques amounted to approximately ₹46 crore (equivalent to BDT 59 crore). 

Upon receiving this information, she immediately instructed the bank to stop payment on the cheques. Radha asserted that she had never given these cheques to Ambika, nor had there been any financial transaction between them that would justify a payment of such a massive sum to Ambika.

Radha alleges that her brother, Mallikarjun, filled in the necessary details on those cheques. Ambika and Mallikarjun allegedly colluded to secure illicit financial gains. The cheques were reportedly taken from her room while she was away from Chennai.

The complaint also mentions a dispute regarding family property. Radha claims she has been denied access to the property for nearly a year and a half; her valuables, jewelry, land deeds, and other important documents are kept there. She has requested the police to investigate these allegations and take criminal action against those involved if the charges are substantiated.

Radha and Ambika were prominent figures in Tamil cinema during the 1980s, sharing the screen with top actors like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Radha made her big-screen debut in 1981 with the film ‘Alaigal Oivathillai’. She subsequently acted in numerous films, including ‘Muthal Mariyathai’, ‘Ennuyir Thozhan’, ‘Melam Kottu Thali Kattu’, and ‘Rajadhi Raja’.

Ambika has acted in a vast number of films across Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada cinema. The two sisters have also appeared together in several movies, such as ‘Enkeyo Ketta Kural’, ‘Velli Roja’, ‘Idhaya Kovil’, ‘Manakanakku’, and ‘Kadhal Parisu’.
