Accused arrested in Goalanda for attempted child rape

Police have arrested, Habi Sardar, 55, the prime accused in a child rape case from Goalanda Ghat Police Station in Goalanda, Rajbari.

The arrested individual, Habi Sardar, is the son of the late Omed Ali Sardar from Omed Ali Sardar Para in Daulatdia Union of the upazila.

Md Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Goalanda Ghat Police Station, confirmed the matter on Wednesday (September 23) afternoon.

Family members of the child stated that last Friday, the child went to play at the neighbor's (Habi's) house. At that time, Habi Sardar called her inside, took her into a room, and locked the door. Later, upon hearing the child crying from inside, the family began calling out to her.

The accused, Habi Sardar, told them the child was not in the room. When they repeatedly banged on the door, he opened it but insisted she was not there.

Eventually, other children found her under a cot inside the room. The child was trembling with fear and was unable to speak at first; later, she informed her family about the incident. As of writing, they are seeking justice through legal action.

According to police sources, a case regarding the rape of a child was filed against the accused based on a written complaint lodged by the victim's father. Immediately after receiving the complaint, the police conducted a raid and arrested Habi Sardar in his local area.

Regarding the matter, OC Shafiqul Islam stated that the prime accused in the child rape case was arrested and, following legal procedures, has been sent to court.

Meanwhile, the victim has been sent to the hospital for medical treatment.
