Govt to procure 1.55 lakh MTs fertiliser, 10,000 MTs lentil

The government on Wednesday approved separate proposals to procure 10,000 metric tons of lentil and 155,000 metric tons of MOP and DAP fertiliser to meet the country's growing demand.

CCGP also approved purchasing two additional cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar Energy Trading LLC under a long-term government-to-government agreement, according to BSS report. 

The additional LNG cargoes are scheduled for delivery on November 6 and November 22, 2026, according to the proposal placed before the committee.

Under the first proposal, the committee recommended the purchase of 10,000 metric tons of lentil in 50-kg sacks through the Open Tender Method (OTM) under the Ministry of Commerce.

Joytun Auto Rice and Dal Mills Ltd of Phultala, Khulna, was recommended as the supplier for the procurement at a total cost of around Tk 76.89 crore, including VAT and taxes.

The price of the lentil was fixed at Tk 76.89 per kg. The committee also recommended the import of four lots of fertiliser under government-to-government (G2G) arrangements.

Under the second item, 40,000 metric tons of MOP fertiliser will be imported from the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) under an agreement signed between CCC and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

The procurement cost for the third lot has been set at around Tk 189.67 crore, with the price fixed at US$383.80 per metric ton.
Another 40,000 metric tons of MOP fertiliser will be imported from Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) under the fourth lot of the agreement at the same price of US$383.80 per metric ton.

Under another state-level agreement between Russia's JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg) and BADC, the government will import 35,000 metric tons of MOP fertiliser under the seventh lot.

Prodintorg, Russia, was recommended as the supplier. The committee also approved the import of 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertiliser from Saudi Arabia's MA'ADEN under a state-level agreement with BADC.

The fertiliser, under the fourth lot for 2026, will cost around Tk 437.37 crore, with the price fixed at US$885 per metric ton. MA'ADEN was recommended as the supplier. All the procurement and import proposals were recommended for approval by the committee.

The five approved proposals involve 10,000 metric tons of lentil and 155,000 metric tons of fertiliser, with a combined value of about Tk 1,059 crore.

Qatar Energy Trading LLC was recommended as the supplier for the two additional cargoes. The proposal was placed by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.

The committee recommended approval of the proposal at the meeting. The purchase is part of the government's arrangements to ensure LNG supplies to meet the country's growing energy demand.
