Ex-BCL leader Alamgir held

Detectives have arrested a former Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader from West Agargaon in the capital on charges of allegedly carrying out various anti-government activities.

The arrestee, Shah Mostafa Alamgir, 55, had previously served as president of the BCL’s Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall unit at Dhaka University, social welfare secretary and organising secretary of the central BCL, and joint secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League’s Publicity and Publication Sub-Committee, said Niaz Mehedi, additional deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media and Public Relations Division. He was also a member of the Netrakona district unit of the AL.

Legal proceedings were underway against him in connection with the allegations, he added.
