Jhalmuri seller’s knife attack leaves youth dises in Gazipur

A 35-year-old man was killed after a jhalmuri seller allegedly stabbed him during an altercation in Gazipur’s Kashimpur area.
The deceased was identified as Rafez Ahmed, son of Gazi Khorshed Alam of Banshkhali village under Dakop Police Station in Khulna. He worked at a local garment factory.
Two others, Murad Hossain and Ashraf Ali, were also injured in the attack and are undergoing treatment at KPJ Specialised Hospital.
According to police, the incident took place on Wednesday night in the Chakrabarti area under Kashimpur Police Station. Rafez was eating jhalmuri at a shop when a jhalmuri seller from a nearby shop got into an argument with some pedestrians.
Rafez went there and tried to settle the dispute. At one point, the jhalmuri seller allegedly became agitated and attacked Rafez and two others with a sharp knife.
Rafez sustained a deep stab wound to the right side of his abdomen. He was initially taken to a local hospital along with the other injured.
As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 1am on Thursday. The attending doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
With the help of local residents, police later detained the alleged attacker, Ataur Rahman. He is the son of Abdul Majid of Falgaacha village under Sundarganj Police Station in Gaibandha.
Kashimpur Police Station Sub-Inspector Shafik Ahmed said Ataur had been detained and legal proceedings were underway.
The police official also said a murder case had previously been filed against Ataur.
