Eleven Bangladeshi nationals, including six women and a four-month-old child, have been detained in Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills district, Indian media reported.

Members of the West Jaintia Students' Union (WJSU) reportedly intercepted the group along the Amlarem-Dawki road on Wednesday morning. The group consisted of four men, six women and an infant.

According to the WJSU, the individuals were found without valid travel documents and reportedly admitted to entering India through the Dawki border area. A suspected local facilitator was also detained and handed over to police.

The detainees were subsequently taken to Amlarem Police Station for further investigation.

The incident has raised fresh concerns among local organisations over alleged unauthorised cross-border movement in Meghalaya. The Hynniewtrep Youth Council has called for an investigation into the group's entry route and alleged involvement of facilitators.
