The Coast Guard has rescued eight fishermen alive after their fishing boat became stranded at sea due to an engine failure.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the matter on Friday morning.
He said, "the eight fishermen had gone fishing on a fishing boat at around 11am on September 19. The boat’s engine broke down while they were at sea, around 11 nautical miles south of Kokilmoni in the Sundarbans, leaving them adrift."
After the boat entered mobile network coverage, one of the fishermen contacted the boat owner at around 3:00 PM on September 24 and informed him of the situation. The owner then sought assistance from the Coast Guard’s West Zone.
Later, Coast Guard Station Kokilmoni launched a rescue operation and rescued the eight fishermen along with their disabled boat from the deep-sea area.
The fishermen were provided with first aid and necessary food by the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard said the process of handing the fishermen over to their fishing boat owner is underway.
