Schoolboy dies from electrocution while playing in yard

A schoolboy died after being electrocuted by a fallen power cable while playing in his home yard in Keshabpur upazila of Jashore on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Sabbir Hossain, 8, son of Azharul Islam of Hariaghop village. He was a third-grade student at Bhandargola Government Primary School.

According to local residents, Sabbir was playing with several others in the yard at around 11:30 AM when he accidentally touched an electrical wire lying beside the cowshed and was electrocuted.

Family members and locals rescued him and took him to Keshabpur Upazila Health Complex.

Tapas Kumar Das, a ward boy at the hospital’s emergency department, said the child had died by the time he was brought to the hospital.
