Delwar Hossain submits nomination for Thakurgaon-1 by-election

Delwar Hossain, the candidate nominated by an 11-party alliance, has submitted his nomination papers on Saturday for the by-election to the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, which fell vacant after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir became president of Bangladesh.

Delwar submitted his nomination papers to Thakurgaon District Election Officer and Returning Officer Md Kamrul Islam at the district election office at Saturday noon.

After filing his nomination, Delwar expressed hope that voters would elect him and pledged to work towards making Thakurgaon free of corruption if elected.

Local Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including Thakurgaon district ameer Maulana Professor Md Belal Uddin Pradhan and assistant secretary Professor Md Kafil Uddin, were present during the nomination filing.

Returning Officer Kamrul Islam said five candidates had so far collected nomination papers for the by-election. The deadline for submitting nominations is 4PM on September 27.
