Dengue cases on the rise in Feni 

FENI, Sept 26: Dengue infections have risen sharply in Feni, with more than 650 cases detected in the district in the first nine months of this year.

According to the latest data from the health department, a total of 652 people have tested positive for dengue in the district since January. Of them, 406 were diagnosed in September alone.

The number of cases has more than tripled compared with last year, when 201 dengue infections were reported in the district.
According to the Feni Civil Surgeon office, 162 dengue tests were conducted in the district in the 24 hours till Friday, with 24 returning positive.

Feni Sadar upazila has recorded the highest number of infections, accounting for 477 of the district’s 652 cases. The remaining cases were reported from other upazilas.

So far this year, 471 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the district. Of them, 430 have been discharged, while 41 are currently undergoing treatment.

No dengue-related death has been reported in Feni so far this year.

According to sources at the Health Department, 6,692 dengue testing kits are currently available in the district. Of these, 5,377 are stocked in Feni Sadar, 38 in Daganbhuiyan, 64 in Sonagazi, 832 in Chhagalnaiya, 341 in Parshuram and 40 in Fulgazi.

Dr Mobarak Hossain Dulal, Superintendent of Feni General Hospital, said dengue infections usually peak during this period.

“Most of the dengue patients admitted to the 250-bed district hospital have recovered. We have not recorded any dengue-related death at the hospital,” he said.

He urged residents not to panic but to remain vigilant, keep their homes and surroundings clean, clear canals and wetlands and use mosquito nets.

“If people are not careful, it will be difficult to control the disease. The number of cases may continue to rise, so there is no alternative to taking precautions,” he said.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Arifuzzaman said 41 dengue patients were currently receiving treatment in hospitals across the district.

“We have provided treatment to 652 dengue patients since the beginning of 2026. We have sufficient stocks of dengue testing kits, and our doctors and teams are providing round-the-clock services at the general and upazila hospitals,” he said.

“We hope we will be able to manage the dengue situation,” he added.
