Nur calls for action over road work complaints

GALACHIPA, PATUAKHALI, Sept 26: State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Haque Nur  has instructed the upazila administration to inspect roads wherever complaints of poor work or irregularities are received and take action against those responsible.

“During elections, some people oppose even good work in their areas. This time, the projects were undertaken to make villagers financially self-reliant, and those who implemented the work also benefited to some extent. But you all know how much work was done from this fund in the past and what kind of work it was,” he said.

“Everyone should properly carry out the work they are responsible for. I will tell the UNO to go wherever you receive complaints about roads. Impose fines if necessary,” he said.

The state minister was speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting with local elected representatives at the extended building of Galachipa Upazila Parishad at noon on Saturday.

He urged Union Parishad chairmen, members and administrators to work with local leaders and people with relevant knowledge to address road-related problems.

“Funds for the Naluabagi Bridge are under process, and work will begin soon. For the development of the area, identify which projects should be taken up under which schemes with the help of those who understand these matters,” he said.

He also instructed local representatives to prepare lists in three categories covering roads, schools, colleges and madrasas so that development work could be carried out in phases.

The meeting was organised by the Galachipa Upazila administration and chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abuzar Md Ejazul Haque.
Galachipa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Imtiaz Ahmed, Upazila BNP Convener Md Golam Mostafa, Gono Odhikar Parishad Upazila President Hafizur Rahman, Member Secretary Md Zakir Hossain Munshi and local leaders and activists of BNP and Gono Odhikar Parishad, among others, attended the meeting.
