JCD expels JU leaders Faria, 1 other over disciplinary violations

The central committee of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has expelled two members of its Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit, Syeda Ananya Faria and Imam Hossain, on specific charges of breaching organizational discipline.

The decision was formally announced in a press release signed by JCD Central Committee Office Secretary (Vice President rank) Md. Jahangir Alam on Saturday (September 26).

According to the press release, JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir approved the expulsions based on allegations of organizational misconduct.

However, the press release did not disclose the precise nature of the charges or details surrounding the incident.

When contacted for comment, Syeda Ananya Faria could not be reached over the phone despite repeated attempts. Meanwhile, the other expelled member, Imam Hossain, refrained from criticizing the party, stating, "I do not wish to say anything against the organization."

Jahangirnagar University unit JCD Convener Johir Uddin Mohammad Babar confirmed the disciplinary action, stating that the duo was expelled for violating party rules, though he similarly declined to elaborate on the specific allegations.

The expulsions follow a controversial Facebook post by Faria on Friday (September 25), in which she alleged that a university teacher had offered to finance a trip to Cox's Bazar for her and her boyfriend in exchange for withdrawing her candidacy in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JAKSU) elections. She did not name the faculty member involved.

In the same post, Faria accused certain faculty members of improperly influencing student politics. She further claimed that while she and another expelled female JCD leader, Anjuman Ikra, worked tirelessly to build their positions, others were rewarded without making similar efforts.

On August 28, 2025, the JU unit of JCD announced a full 25-member panel for the JAKSU elections. On the same afternoon, Faria held a press conference to announce her independent candidacy for the General Secretary post. She later withdrew her nomination on September 9, two days prior to the election.
