The protesters said DCU had begun its journey as a separate university after being separated from Dhaka University, and they were opposed to the appointment of a DU teacher as the VC at the outset of the new institution’s journey.

They also said their examinations remain stalled and that they are facing uncertainty over various academic matters, including academic migration. They demanded that the outstanding issues be resolved quickly.

The students said they did not want decisions of the Dhaka University Syndicate to be imposed on DCU. According to them, one of their key demands was that no decision of the DU Syndicate should be implemented at the new university.

“We do not accept the Dhaka University Syndicate at Dhaka Central University. Yet our VC has been appointed from Dhaka University. This is shameful and unfortunate for Dhaka Central University,” the protesters said.

The demonstrators also demanded the reinstatement of former VC Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam.

Their other demands include immediately converting Dhaka Central University to a schooling model, announcing an academic roadmap incorporating all sessions from the 2021-22 academic year in sequence, and opening an administrative building at any one of the university’s seven campuses as soon as possible.
