Worker dies after falling from tree in Satkhira

A 34-year-old worker was killed after falling from a tree while picking wood apple fruit in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 12:00 PM on Sunday (September 27) in Burigoalini village of Shyamnagar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Mrityunjay, son of Chitta Ranjan of Kalikapur village under Moutala Union in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira.

Rabiul Islam, a member of Burigoalini Union Parishad, said, "Mrityunjay worked as a seasonal fruit-picking labourer. While picking wood apple from a tree belonging to Nur Mohammad Dhali around noon, he suddenly slipped and fell to the ground."

He sustained severe injuries to his head and chest and died at the scene.

Shyamnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiul Islam Patwari said, "the deceased’s relatives initially took the body to Kaliganj Police Station by mistake. As the accident occurred in Shyamnagar, the body was later sent from Kaliganj to Shyamnagar Police Station."

The OC said, "the body would be handed over to the family if there is no objection or complaint regarding the death".
