Virat Kohli made history by becoming only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to reach 15,000 ODI runs during India’s first ODI against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (September 27).

Kohli reached the landmark in his 303rd ODI innings, making him the fastest batter to score 15,000 runs in the format. Tendulkar had reached the milestone in his 377th innings.

The India batter entered the match needing 59 runs to complete the feat. He brought up his half-century from 40 balls before reaching 15,000 with a boundary off Alzarri Joseph.

Kohli began the match with 14,941 ODI runs and now sits second on the all-time run-scoring list behind Tendulkar, who finished his ODI career with 18,426 runs. Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara is third with 14,234 runs.

Kohli also remains the leading century-maker in ODI cricket, with 54 hundreds to his name.
